Did I ever mention that I used to be a journalist?

In Mexico, at the same time I was going to college (I have a degree in International Relationships and Economics), in the afternoon I worked for a state daily newspaper called “Liberacion” covering all the economic issues of my area.  Twice I also interviewed people for local TV and radio. I really loved journalism; so much that I started missing many classes. The university said I had to choose between graduating or reporting. I am very proud of my career path after graduating but I am a little sad it wasn’t in journalism.

I remember one day, on the way to an interview, I told the photographer accompanying me, Arturo Rosales (see his blog here), that, “One time I would like not to be the interviewer but be interviewed.” I could never have imagined it, but now I have been interviewed a couple times about my art. Isn’t it funny how life works out?

Now, when I go to shows and other events, I like to practice my old journalism skills by “covering” the event by making videos and interviewing some of the artists. This is my way of sharing with others that couldn’t be there.

Here are links to my interviews and also to many of the video “stories, notes and interviews” I’ve made with other artists that I admire (many that I am proud to say are now my friends) and that I know have something to teach or share with all of us.

The interviews are far from professional but they are made with all my heart and I hope you enjoy hearing from these artists as much I did. Special thanks to my friend Danny Medrano (dcmcreativesolutions@gmail.com) who edits the videos I take and makes them look much better and to my great staff Ruth and Gus who are my right hand when I am teaching or covering shows in Latin America.

Notice that I have also begun posting live video coverage from events, shows and classes on my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/mariselarumberg) so make sure you stay tuned. I will try to give at least 30 minutes notice before each live broadcast; if you “like” my page you will get these advance notices.

Smile, Quilt and Tangle,
Con mucho cariño,

Marisela
